Snakes and Ladders – Metaphors of Social Mobility and Life Paths
How do external circumstances influence individual life paths? To what extent is social mobility a real opportunity, and to what extent is it an illusion? How does the expectation of self-optimization arise within the capitalist system, and what psychological effects does this have?
In connection with the exhibition Snakes and Ladders, we invite you to an engaging discussion featuring the exhibition’s artist, Judit Lilla Molnár and Márk Áron Éber social researcher—whose book The Drop: The Class Structure of the Semi-Peripheral Hungarian Society inspired the exhibition—will jointly delve into these questions. The discussion will be moderated by curator Gábor Krisztián Török.
The participants will share their thoughts on the exhibition’s concept, as well as the artistic and scientific tools used to explore social mobility and social structures. The discussion will cover the psychological and social mechanisms that shape upward and downward mobility, and how these processes are reflected in the large-scale installation featured in the exhibition.
The exhibition is open for viewing:
from February 20 to March 21, 2025.
(Wednesday to Friday, 12:00 PM – 6:00 PM, or by appointment)
