Judit HORVÁTH LÓCZI: Family Business

April 3 - 30, 2025

Curator: Lilla Boros

Art is never born in a closed space. Although we usually see works of art in the sterile neutrality of white cube exhibition spaces, in reality, in the world of the artist, they are born from a cacophony of impressions, feelings, and thoughts. Environmental influences, the noise of everyday life, and spontaneous moments all influence the creation of a work, so the exhibited works also carry this living imprint. We are aware of some of these influences and often take them into account when interpreting the work. We are usually familiar with the historical and social context, but we rarely know or consider the artist's everyday life, even though most influences come from our innermost circles. Works of art are a kind of metamorphosis of the artist's thoughts, the influences that affect him/her, his/her environment, and the impulses that affect him/her.
The exhibition Family Business goes against this tradition and provides insight into the life of a family and the processes of joint creation. The exhibition is a reflection of an intimate, internal process in which the artist and her children respond to each other, allowing us to glimpse into this internal relationship and how their images of each other are transformed into works of art.

How does your private life affect your work? As a freelancer, how well can we separate work and private life? Or are the two inevitably intertwined? In this event, the artist and the curator will discuss the theme of the exhibition and how this question is reflected in the creative and curatorial process.
